Robber Sees Red as He Escapes With Loot

A dapper, middle-aged man police described as a “typical gentleman” held up a San Carlos bank Wednesday, but officials said he is unlikely to spend the $2,000 he stole.

According to Bill Robinson, a San Diego Police spokesman, the man entered the HomeFed Bank in the 6900 block of Navajo Road just after noon and handed a bank teller a note that said: “I have a gun. Don’t be a fool. Someone will be hurt.” He told her to fill his fanny pack with money.

The teller obeyed, but she also included an exploding dye pack, which went off as he fled from the bank on foot. The money he stole is now indelibly marked in red, Robinson said.
