POP ALBUM CHART : Carey Comfortably at No. 1--For Now

Share

Mariah Carey’s debut album, “Mariah Carey,” is still comfortably nestled in the top spot of the Billboard magazine pop album chart and probably won’t face any serious challenges for the next week or two. The only album on the rise in the Top 10 is Enigma’s “MCMXC a.D.” (No. 7), and that doesn’t have strong No. 1 potential. The Rolling Stones’ live album, “Flashpoint,” is one of the hottest new albums on the chart, rolling up to No. 18 in just two weeks. Lenny Kravitz’s “Mama Said” took a big leap up the chart, from No. 84 to No. 47. Amy Grant’s “Baby Baby” is the new No. 1 pop single.

* Roxette’s single “Joyride,” which jumped three notches to No. 2, should be the next No. 1 pop song. The success of the single launched the duo’s new album, also called “Joyride,” into the Top 20. After entering the chart at No. 41, the album leaped to No. 19.
