FULLERTON : Water Conservation Plan Implemented
The City Council this week implemented the first phase of the city’s five-part emergency water conservation ordinance.
Phase One, effective April 25, is a voluntary measure aimed at reducing water use by 10%. It asks residents to cease hosing down driveways, sidewalks, parking lots or other paved surfaces, recommends restrictions on vehicle washing and requests that restaurants serve water only on request.
The city also will distribute water-saving information and flow restricters for faucets and showers. The council approved a $41,000 allocation for staffing and operational needs to administer Phase One.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California had originally stated that Fullerton and its other member water agencies had to begin a 30% mandatory rationing of MWD water by April 1. However, because of the March rain, the MWD reduced the level to 20%.
Under the city’s plan, the remaining four phases call for cutbacks of up to 25%.
