Low Turnout for Election

Share

As an inspector in the recent Los Angeles election, I was appalled at the considerable waste of taxpayers’ dollars in the ratio of cost per voter. In our precinct we had 35 voters in 13 hours with three precinct workers (there would have been four, but one didn’t show). The salaries for the three of us plus the custodian were $165. That’s about $4.71 per vote.

One solution would be, in these small city elections, to combine some of the precincts. We certainly do not mind working (at minimum wage or below) but would like work to do.
