Julio Cesar Chavez, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation junior-welterweight champion, said that he is giving up his IBF title because of a dispute with IBF president Bob Lee and promoter Bob Arum.
Chavez said he is vacating the IBF title because Lee ordered him to defend his belt against No. 1 contender Rafael Pineda of Colombia at Arum’s bequest.
Last December, Chavez signed a three-year contract with Arum. He has since rejoined Don King’s promotional firm and is suing Arum to break his contract.
