Bomb Material, Drug Lab Found in House

A partly assembled bomb and a methamphetamine lab it was supposed to protect were dismantled after San Diego police and members of the County Narcotics Task Force raided a Clairemont house.

Officers found a device with black powder and wiring Tuesday at the residence, in the 6800 block of Salizar Street. The device was dismantled by a San Diego Fire Department demolitions team.

Once inside the residence, officers found the laboratory and chemicals used in the production of methamphetamines, said Bill Robinson, a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.

John Gonsalves, 32, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. on several outstanding warrants as well as on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines and chemicals used of for the production of the drug, Robinson said. Gonsalves was held at downtown County Jail.
