The Writers Go Public

For the first time, the Southern California Restaurant Writers’ annual awards banquet will be open to the public. It will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim and starts with a buffet presented by previous award-winning restaurants--among them Antonello, Chanteclair, Royal Thai, El Torito Grill and Horikawa. Wines from several of California’s top wineries will also be served. Dessert and champagne will follow the awards ceremony, during which gold and silver awards will be given to restaurants evaluated during 1990. In addition, individual achievement awards will be announced. Tickets are $125, with proceeds going to scholarships in the culinary arts and enology. Information: (714) 533-7644.

Gambino’s in Fullerton has closed. So, too, has the Fullerton location of Steamer’s Seafood. The Placentia Steamer’s at 1205 E. Imperial Highway remains open, however.
