Armored Car Robbed Outside Bank; Guard Hurt

Share

Two gunmen robbed an armored car in the parking lot of an Inglewood bank Thursday after pistol-whipping a guard as he prepared to deliver an undisclosed amount of cash to the bank.

Inglewood police said the robbery outside the First Interstate Bank at 113th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard occurred about 11:30 a.m. as an armored car owned by Loomis Armored Inc. pulled up at the bank’s back entrance.

As the delivery guard loaded bags of cash onto a dolly, police said, the robbers pounced on him, striking him in the head with a semi-automatic pistol and spraying a mace-type gas in his eyes. The robbers then grabbed three bags of cash and fled on foot from the parking lot. The guard, who was not identified, was treated at the scene by paramedics after authorities were summoned by his partner, who remained inside the armored car during the robbery.
