Address Changes but ZIP Code Won’t
Oak Park residents cannot change their ZIP code to avoid being associated with Los Angeles County, but they now will be able to list Oak Park as their mailing address instead of Agoura Hills.
The eastern Ventura County community, which is served by the Agoura Hills Post Office, requested last month that its ZIP code be changed to avoid possible confusion with neighboring Los Angeles, especially with regard to insurance rates.
Changing a ZIP code can cost the U.S. Postal Service several hundreds of thousands of dollars and is usually not done for community identity. However, the Postal Service has agreed to let residents of the unincorporated area change their mailing address.
The post office this week changed its database and notified employees of the change, according to a letter from the Postal Service to Supervisor Maria VanderKolk.
