Jerry Lewis’ Son Charged With Possessing Stolen Art

Comedian Jerry Lewis’ son was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging him with possessing limited-edition graphics stolen in November from a storage facility in Van Nuys, police said.

Christopher Lewis, 33, of Pebble Beach surrendered to Monterey County sheriff’s deputies after he had been charged with receiving and concealing stolen property, said Los Angeles police spokeswoman Sharyn Michelson. He was released on $5,000 bail.

In the Nov. 28 burglary, thieves made off with 168 graphics valued at about $200,000, Michelson said. Investigators were told in February that art taken in the burglary was being sold in the San Francisco Bay Area, she said.

Undercover Los Angeles police detectives went to the Bay Area and bought four of the graphics allegedly taken from a storage facility owned by American Designs, she said.

In March, undercover detectives bought an additional 15 graphics valued at $28,000 after they received information that the artworks were being sold in Sherman Oaks, Michelson said.

The two undercover operations determined that the person selling the graphics was Lewis, Michelson said.

Two weeks ago, Los Angeles detectives went to the Monterey area and searched Lewis’ Pebble Beach home and his business in Del Rey Oaks, she said. Investigators also notified Lewis’ attorney of the arrest warrant, she said.

Detectives would not disclose what, if anything, they recovered from Lewis’ home or business.

Lewis could not be reached Wednesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 3 in Los Angeles Municipal Court.
