Art Sales Sputter: Million-dollar-plus sales of paintings by Franz Kline ($1.87 million for “West Brand”), Robert Rauschenberg ($1.87 million for “Bait”) and Roy Lichtenstein ($1.65 million for “Razzmatazz”) sparked a generally lackluster auction of contemporary art Wednesday night at Christie’s New York. Sales totaled $11 million--nearly $4 million less than the auction house’s lowest prediction--and 15 of 54 works offered failed to sell.
