A police dog was credited Thursday with rousting a suspected burglar from a University City house he had broken into, police reported.
Officer’s responding to a burglary in progress in the 4200 block of Governor Drive about 10:50 a.m. arrived just as two burglars ran out the back door, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Police searched the area and found that someone had broken a window and entered a nearby house in the 6100 block of Cozzens Street, Robinson said. Police sent a police dog inside. The dog found the burglar and, after a brief scuffle in which the man was bitten several times, cornered the suspect.
Police arrested Albert Banuelos, 26, in connection with the attempted burglary and transported him to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was treated for his wounds, Robinson said.
Banuelos was being held Thursday night on $20,000 bail at the downtown County Jail on two counts of suspicion of first-degree burglary, a jail spokeswoman said.
The second burglar escaped.
