Nick Price, crediting an adjusted putting stance, shot a bogey-free 64 Friday to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Byron Nelson tournament at Irving, Tex.

Price, who had considered using a long putter, said he made a major improvement in the last two months when he discovered he had most of his weight on his back foot.

“When you’re putting well, as I have been for the past few weeks, it takes a lot of pressure off your chipping, the rest of your game,” Price said.

Stan Utley shot a 66 to move into second place at 133.

Tom Kite also had a 66 and was at 134 with Tom Watson, Bruce Lietzke, Corey Pavin and Craig Stadler. Watson had an erratic round of 69 that included six birdies and five bogeys.

Nancy Lopez, expecting her third child in November, tied the course record with a 65 and took a two-stroke lead after one round of the Sara Lee tournament at Nashville, Tenn.

A double-bogey at the 392-yard 14th hole was the only blemish on Lopez’s round.

Kris Monaghan was second at 67.

Said Lopez: “I’ve always enjoyed being pregnant and, I don’t know why, I seem to hit the ball farther when I’m pregnant.”

Bruce Crampton and Ken Still each shot 67 and shared the first-round lead as a violent storm delayed play for an hour at the Las Vegas Seniors Classic on the 6,810-yard Desert Inn course.
