Pasadena : Speed Humps Coming Back
The city’s 6-year-old speed hump program, put on hold in November, 1989, will be resumed.
City directors last week approved allowing the program to continue as long as the impact on surrounding streets be determined before any new humps are installed.
Currently, 19 miles of the city’s residential streets have 208 humps. The humps, used to slow traffic, stretch 12 feet across streets and are wider and lower than speed bumps usually used in parking lots.
When demand for them jumped in 1989, city officials realized they had to regulate installation. The city has a backlog of 150 requests for humps.
