1 Dead, 2 Critical in Highway Crash
A single-car accident on California 79 north of Warner Springs Friday night killed one woman and injured the driver and another passenger.
A California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said that the northbound car apparently drifted off the pavement and when the driver made a sharp turn to return to the highway, the car overturned. All three occupants were ejected.
The dead woman was identified by the County Medical Examiner’s office Saturday as Carmel Kane, 22, of Cardiff. Injured and taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido were the driver, 23-year-old Shannon McGuigan of San Diego and a passenger, Jim Ashworth, 25, of Point Loma.
Both McGuigan and Ashworth were listed in critical but stable condition Saturday night. McGuigan has a broken neck, separated pelvis and other injuries. Ashworth also has a broken neck and other injuries.
