‘Blatant Power Play’

Share

I am appalled at what I read in your paper of the blatant power play performed by the Culver City Council on April 22. I saw this coming a year ago when they elected Steve Gourley as mayor when he wanted to be mayor this term instead.

It is obvious that some of the council is still not listening to the people, even though we ousted two of the worst offenders, and another left who knew his time was up, and a clear victory was seen at the polls for Measure 1 (A height-limit initiative approved by voters last year).

The mayoral rotation was set up specifically to avoid this type of political grabbing for power. The position is rightfully Jim Boulgarides’, and this disgusting display of childish behavior will not be tolerated. Paul Jacobs has obviously been on the council too long. He no longer is in tune with the citizens of this city or the platform he ran on in the previous elections. He has no “vision” except for his own political agenda. It is easy to be for slow growth when the rest of the council is for development, but when the tables are turned, you can see his true colors.

I predict that his sponsorship of a measure to compete with Measure 1 and his continued fight against the citizens’ wishes have sealed his fate of not getting elected next year.

The people of Culver City won’t stand for the underhanded, greedy ways we see in other cities. I am truly ashamed of our political leaders. There must (and will) be a change.
