OXNARD : Pedestrian Unaware He Was Shot in Calf

Share

On his way to a neighborhood store, Duke Tinoco thought he heard a car backfire.

Only after he got home Saturday night did the 30-year-old Oxnard man realize that someone had shot him in the calf with a small-caliber bullet, police said.

“He just didn’t feel it,” said Oxnard Police Sgt. Jeff Young.

Tinoco was crossing Wooley Road at K Street at 9:30 p.m. when the shooting occurred. Police have found no motive.

“We don’t know if the shot came from a car, a person on foot or a nearby building,” Young said. “But the caliber must have been fairly small because it didn’t cause much damage.”

Tinoco was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was treated for a wound on his left calf and released, Young said.
