BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Braves Get Heep From White Sox
The Atlanta Braves traded infielder Kevin Castleberry to the Chicago White Sox for outfielder-first baseman Danny Heep.
Heep, 33, is expected to join the Braves in time for today’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Heep, a left-handed batter, was hitting .243 with no home runs and 10 RBIs in 20 games for Vancouver, Chicago’s triple-A affiliate.
Castleberry, 23, the Braves’ fourth-round selection in the June 1989 draft, hit .219 with no homers and four RBIs in 20 games with the Class-A Miami Miracle this season.
In 119 games with the Class-A Durham Bulls last season, he hit .242 with 18 doubles, four triples, seven homers, 27 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
