PLATFORM : A Civics Lesson

The awards ceremony was the politics of symbolism. I also engaged in the politics of symbolism by presenting the (school board) notice to let Gov. Wilson know that real people could be affected by possible cuts in the state budget.

The state should provide steady and purposeful funding to school districts. However, everyone wants to point the finger when it comes to funding. The school board says, “Don’t look at us--blame Sacramento.” Instead of throwing their hands up, the school board should eliminate waste and ensure that additional (state) funds go into the classroom--instead of using allocations to increase the number of regulators and bureaucrats.

Society has not yet made a complete commitment to education. If the school board lays off a large number of teachers, class size would be horrendously large and students would have a very depersonalized educational experience.
