BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : No Nostalgia for Former Yankees
Angel outfielders Dave Winfield and Luis Polonia were glad to see their former Yankee teammates, but neither misses New York.
“That’s all behind me now,” said Winfield, who was acquired last May for Mike Witt.
Polonia, acquired for Rich Monteleone and Claudell Washington last April, said he tries to play especially well against the Yankees and A’s, his two former employers.
“It’s exciting to play against them. I’ve got something burning inside me when I play against them,” Polonia said.
Wally Joyner hit second instead of third, as usual. Luis Sojo, the No. 2 hitter most of the season, hit eighth. “It should be fun,” said Joyner, who last hit second July 4. “Just as long as I get to hit, it’s fine.” Joyner homered in the fourth inning. . . . Jack Howell will undergo an examination of his right wrist today at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic to determine the cause of soreness.
