Dallas Maverick center Roy Tarpley was given two weeks to select an attorney to represent him on assault charges stemming from the beating of a woman who claims to be his girlfriend.
Tarpley, 26, entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment on charges of assault with intent to do bodily injury. He was released Sunday from the Houston City Jail on $500 bond after being charged with assaulting Ardia Preston, 30. If convicted, he could face up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
