Wednesday

* Otis Arts Institute of Parsons School of Design conferred degrees on 136 graduates at its 35th annual commencement, with six associate of arts, 124 bachelor of arts and six master’s degrees awarded. Los Angeles City Councilman Joel Wachs, architect John Lautner and artist Emerson Woelffer received honorary degrees.

Friday

* California Institute of the Arts conferred degrees on 250 graduates, with eight certificates, 124 bachelor of fine arts, 113 master of fine arts and five master of arts degrees awarded. CalArts President Steven D. Lavine (Stanford, 1969) delivered the keynote address. Honorary degrees were awarded to Ali Akbar Khan, Indian sarod player and composer, and to Pearl Primus, an anthropologist, choreographer and dancer.

Saturday

* Loyola Marymount University held its 79th annual commencement, honoring 1,656 graduates with 1,200 receiving bachelor’s degrees and 456 receiving master’s degrees. Robert F. Erburu (USC, 1952), chairman and chief executive officer of Times Mirror Co., delivered the keynote address. Honorary degrees were awarded to Valentin Petrovich Fyodorov, governor of the Sakhalin Region of the U.S.S.R., and Jesuit priest John Anthony Baumann, director and founder of the Pacific Institute for Community Organizations. Alfred L. Fisher, a double major in biology and biochemistry from Westchester, was the class valedictorian.

* Mount St. Mary’s College held its 62nd commencement, honoring 361 graduates. Linda Wong (USC, 1971), executive director of the Achievement Council, delivered the commencement address.

* The Master’s College honored 181 graduates at its commencement. Jack Wyrtzen, founder and director of Word of Life Fellowship Inc., delivered the keynote address.

Looking Ahead

* Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology and Pepperdine Law School will hold their commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Malibu campus. Jack A. Scott, superintendent and president of Pasadena City College, will be the keynote speaker at the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, and Malcolm M. Lucas, chief justice of California, will address the law school graduates. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* Claremont Graduate School will hold its 64th annual commencement at 3 p.m. Saturday in Bridges Auditorium. Anthony Lewis, New York Times columnist, will deliver the keynote address. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* Pitzer College commencement exercises will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday on the Pellissier Mall at Pitzer College. Diane Mosbacher, regional medical chief for the county of San Mateo, will address the graduating seniors. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* Claremont McKenna College will feature Commerce Secretary Robert A. Mosbacher as the keynote speaker. Graduation ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at the campus. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* Pomona College will hold its 98th annual commencement at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Bridges Auditorium. David Alexander, retiring president of Pomona College, will be the featured speaker. Ceremonies are not open to the public.

* Scripps College commencement will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday on Elm Tree Lawn at the Scripps campus. Bonnie Jo Hunt, president and founder of Artists of Indian America Inc., will be the keynote speaker. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* Harvey Mudd College will hold its 33rd annual commencement at 4 p.m. Sunday on the Braun Liquidambre Mall. Ben Wattenberg, author and columnist, will deliver the keynote address. Ceremonies are open to the public.

* UCLA School of Law will feature U.S. Atty. Lourdes Baird as its keynote speaker at its 40th annual commencement at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Architecture Quadrangle on campus. Ceremonies are open to the public.
