Pruett, Ribbs Blow Engines in Indy Heat
Scott Pruett and rookie Willy T. Ribbs blew their engines in near-90-degree heat Wednesday as they and other drivers practiced for this weekend’s qualifying sessions for the Indianapolis 500. It was Pruett’s fifth blown engine.
Twenty-two cars qualified last weekend for the 33-car field in the May 26 race.
The best performances by the non-qualified drivers were Hiro Matushita at 215.765 m.p.h., Tero Palmroth at 215.167, Pruett at 213.929, Didier Theys at 213.767, Johnny Parsons Jr. at 209.249 and Ribbs at 209.655.
