SIMI VALLEY : Man Pleads Guilty to 2 Bank Robberies

Share

A Simi Valley man has pleaded guilty in federal court to two robberies in February and March at banks in Saugus and Canoga Park.

Ronald Mark Verheggen, 25, was indicted by a federal grand jury March 29 in connection with four bank robberies. But charges in two, in Simi Valley and Northridge, were dismissed Monday at the motion of the U.S. attorney as part of a plea bargain, said Gary Auer, head of the Ventura County office of the FBI.

Verheggen’s conviction stems from an investigation conducted after the Jan. 28, 1991, robbery of the Bank of America at 5821 Los Angeles Ave. in Simi Valley, Auer said.

Ventura County newspapers ran photographs of the unidentified robber and calls from the public led to the identification of Verheggen. He was arrested March 14 in Simi Valley.

Sentencing is set for July 22 in federal court. Verheggen could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years or a $5,000 fine or both for each robbery, Auer said.
