Two police officers pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of battery and battery under color of authority stemming from an alleged attack on a drug suspect during a raid Jan. 24.

San Diego Police Officer Harvey Love and National City Police Officer William Rudershausen pleaded not guilty to the two counts during a Municipal Court arraignment, according to the prosecutor in the case.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeff Dusek said both officers remain free on their own recognizance.

If convicted on both charges, the officers could be sentenced to up to 18 months in jail and to pay up to $12,000 in fines.

Love and Rudershausen were ordered to appear in Municipal Court on June 7, when a trial date will be set.

The alleged victim in the attack, Alphonso H. Reyes, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty April 3 to a charge stemming from the January drug raid.

Superior Court Judge Frederic Link said he sentenced Reyes to two years in state prison for his conviction on one count of possession of PCP for sale.
