Heat’s Still On: Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart was still a defendant Wednesday in a $90-million suit for defamation filed in New Orleans by another preacher after other defendants were dropped by the court. Marvin Gorman’s suit still claims that Swaggart and his wife conspired to topple Gorman with lies about adulterous affairs. A trial is scheduled for July 8.

* Empty Threats?: After Donald Trump said Wednesday he was cutting off Ivana Trump’s $350,000-a-year alimony on the grounds that her interview with Barbara Walters violated the terms of their split, Ivana Thursday struck back. Her lawyer, Michael Kennedy, mocked Trump’s financial plight by saying the threats to sue were “as empty as Mr. Trump’s pockets and just about as deep.”

* Hospital Report: Molly Yard, president of the National Organization for Women, had a stroke Wednesday night and was listed in serious condition Thursday at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Yard is “speaking, giving out information and telling us what to do,” a NOW spokeswoman said. When Yard became president of the 250,000-member organization in 1987, she said she was in her 70s, and she still refuses to disclose her exact age.

* Hot Sex: Philippine President Corazon Aquino’s chief of staff, Oscar Orbos, joined Philippine Cardinal Jaime Sin as he set fire to piles of erotic magazines and sex films Thursday outside the gates of the presidential palace in Manila in a renewed church campaign against pornography. Boy scouts and members of a church-backed civic group carried placards reading: “No to porno.”
