Heisman Winner Huarte Will Play in Golf Event
John Huarte, the only Orange County native to win the Heisman Trophy, will be the featured celebrity in Wednesday’s annual Hall of Fame Charity Golf Tournament at Anaheim Hills Golf Course.
Huarte, who graduated from Mater Dei High School and now lives in Phoenix, won the Heisman in 1964 when he led Notre Dame to a 9-1 record.
Other celebrities in the field include high jumper Dwight Stones, former Ram kicker Mike Lansford, former Angel Doug DeCinces, swimmers Bruce Furniss and Brian Goodell, former boxing champion Carlos Palomino, ex-jockey Alex Maese, former basketball star George Yardley, and football’s Pat McInally, Craig Fertig, Paul Cleary and Mickey Flynn.
Proceeds from the tournament and a post-event auction will benefit the building of the Sports Hall of Fame wing at Anaheim Stadium.
Tournament information is available by calling (714) 634-1984.
