A North Hollywood woman was fatally stabbed Saturday during a dispute with her husband, who was later arrested on suspicion of murder, Los Angeles police said.

Yolanda Stewart, 28, was stabbed once in the chest during a violent argument with her husband, Charles, 48, about 5:25 a.m. in an apartment along the 6100 block of Hazelhurst Place, Detective Mike Coffey said.

She was pronounced dead two hours later at Medical Center of North Hollywood.

Yolanda Stewart and the couple’s three children had been staying at the apartment, which was rented by a friend, for about two weeks, Coffey said.

The Stewarts, who had been married for 14 years, had a history of domestic violence, and she had moved to get away from him, Coffey said.

Charles Stewart, who fled the scene following the stabbing, was arrested about five blocks away.
