SINGAPORE: The economy should grow between 6% and 8% this year, up from an earlier forecast of 3% to 6%, State Minister for Trade and Industry Mah Bow Tan said. The revision was due to favorable economic conditions in the United States and growth in neighboring countries, he said. Singapore’s economy grew by 8.3% last year. “There are some indications that the U.S. economy may be picking up,” Tan said. “The Gulf War has ended faster than expected. Earlier fears of a worldwide recession have now receded.”
