Deputies from the Lemon Grove sheriff’s station are seeking the public’s help in investigating a man suspected of sexually molesting women who responded to his newspaper ads, a Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said Tuesday.

James Silas, 62, of the 9400 block of El Granito Avenue in La Mesa, was being held without bail at County Jail downtown on suspicion of assault to rape, sexual battery, battery, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct-lewd and false imprisonment in the molestations, which began in October, authorities said.

Silas was arrested Friday at his home after a woman reported that she had been sexually battered there when she responsed to an ad for employment, Sgt. Kate Nolan said. Silas had allegedly placed newspaper ads seeking women for housekeeping, modeling and maids, as well as seeking women to rent rooms or share the rent on a house, she said.
