FULLERTON : Bike Path Proposal Receives Backing

Share

The City Council this week preliminarily approved a resolution drafted by the city’s Bicycle Task Force to create more bike paths throughout the city.

By a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Richard C. Ackerman dissenting, the council OKd a resolution that calls for all current and future city circulation and transportation policies, and development plans regarding modification, improvement or construction of Fullerton streets and trails, to include consideration of bike paths.

The resolution also calls for creation of a Bicycle Users Committee, which would review the city’s current and future street development plans to ensure that bike routes are considered.

Grace Y. Miranda, Fullerton’s supervisor for community services, said the resolution will be slightly modified before it is brought back to the City Council for final approval.

“The resolution is a bit too broad,” said Councilman A.B. (Buck) Catlin. “We just want them (the Bicycle Task Force) to define in more detail what the responsibilities of the Bicycle Users Committee will be.”

Miranda said the revised resolution should be ready for council approval in two weeks, and she expects the council to give its final approval.
