Deion Sanders charged Thursday that he was being harassed by a policeman in suburban Atlanta who arrested Sanders for disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer shortly after the Braves’ outfielder was sent down to the minor leagues.

The arrest came Wednesday night outside a supermarket in Duluth, about an hour after the Braves lost, 7-2, to the San Diego Padres and Sanders learned he was being sent to triple-A Richmond of the International League.

Sanders said he and his wife had stopped at a store on their way home from the stadium to buy thank-you cards for his teammates, who gave him an emotional send-off at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. “I don’t really understand why I was approached in the first place,” said Sanders, who was released on $350 bond, is scheduled to appear June 6 in Duluth Municipal Court on the charges.
