Two young men were in stable condition at UCLA Medical Center on Saturday after they were gunned down in a movie theater waiting line by a man who got into an argument with another patron, according to Los Angeles police.

The gunman, who fled after the shooting in Century City, remained at large. Officers declined to release the victims’ names.

Detectives said the victims, ages 19 and 21, were standing in line with their girlfriends in front of the AMC Century 14 Theater at 10250 Santa Monica Blvd. about 10:30 p.m. Friday when another male patron, believing that he was being stared at, asked the suspect: “Do you have a problem with me?”

“There were more words, threats to fight, that sort of thing,” Police Lt. Douglas Pilot said. “Then the suspect pulled out a gun and fired.”

The bullets struck both victims in the abdomen.

Officers said there was no evidence that the attack was gang-related.

“Just people going to the show,” Pilot said. “Just people being people.”
