Verdicts in 2 Police Cases
I am offended by the remarks attributed to juror Kenneth Fleetwood at the conclusion of the defamation and civil rights lawsuit trial of Vernon (Metro, May 15).
During the trial, Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates testified while wearing his police uniform. Fleetwood stated, “He looked like he was in a clown suit. It was a joke. I was not impressed.”
I’m certain the chief was not trying to impress Fleetwood. He was simply wearing the uniform that he is proud of and entitled to wear.
There are also a great many other men and women who trained long and hard and are proud to be able to wear that uniform. I hope Fleetwood comes to realize how insulting and insensitive his remarks are to each and every one of them.
