Spring weather and winter rules made scores fall in the Colonial Saturday at Ft. Worth.

Bob Lohr shot a seven-under-par 63 for a one-stroke lead and Steve Elkington had a course-record 62 after overnight rain allowed the players to lift, clean and place balls on the fairway.

“Colonial is never easy,” Elkington said. “But it was easier.”

Gene Sauers trails Lohr by one shot after a 68, good for a three-round total of 200.

Mark Calcavecchia shot a 68 and is tied at 201 with Fred Funk (68), Stan Utley (69), Keith Clearwater (69) and Chris Perry (70).

“Getting your hands on the ball is a definite advantage,” said Lohr, who one-putted 10 times and chipped in for one of nine birdies.
