More on Ireland

Our family returned from a car trip in Southern Ireland and believe the following information will assist your readers planning to tour Ireland by car this summer, as I am sure many will do after reading your articles on Northern Ireland.

For the Republic of Ireland, we recommend flying directly to Dublin and visiting Shannon by car. Dublin is a fascinating city with many more attractions.

All advertised B&Bs; that we called from the Dublin Airport were full, as were most of the hotels. (Reservations at B&Bs; are essential.) An airport employee arranged accommodations at St. Brigids House. The proprietor is Tom McLoughlin, and it is located in a charming and quaint village called Swords, about five miles from the airport and a 40-minute bus ride from Dublin. Tom teaches history at the high school and loves to tell his guests about Ireland. He planned our car trip and included interesting places not mentioned in the tourist information we had. The cost was about $25 per night, per person. The address: St. Brigids House, 4 Rathbeale Road, Swords County, Dublin, Ireland; call locally 408-8078.

The only difficulty we had driving in Ireland and its cities, particularly Dublin, was the lack of road signs and road signs that were misleading.

The most interesting part of the car trip was the western coast of Ireland. The few days we toured this area were not enough.
