Fletcher Markle; Writer, Director, Creator of ‘Studio One’

Fletcher Markle, 70, Canadian radio, television and film writer, director and producer who created “Studio One” dramatic series for radio and early television. Markle worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Co., CBS and MGM, creating such shows as “Ford Theater,” “Life With Father,” and “M Squad,” and films including “Night Into Morning” in 1952 and “Incredible Journey” in 1962. He also acted occasionally and played the leading male role with Helen Hayes in “A Farewell to Arms” on radio. Markle’s son, Stephen, is now playing the title role in “Julius Caesar” at the Mark Taper Forum. On Thursday in Pasadena of heart failure.
