Gianni Bugno won a mountainous 79-mile race on the island of Sardinia, but fellow Italian Franco Chioccioli moved into first place overall in the Tour of Italy cycling event.

The second stage was divided into an Olbia-to-Sassari race won by Bugno in 3 hours 21 minutes 32 seconds and a 4.7-mile speed test won by GianLuca Pierobon in 10 minutes 9 seconds.
