BASEBALL : DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Players Praise New Comiskey Park

The new Comiskey Park earned rave reviews from the Angels. Seeing the half-demolished old Comiskey across the street made former White Sox Dave Gallagher sentimental enough to buy two seats as souvenirs, at $250 each.

“I’m impressed,” Gallagher said of the new park. “Any facility that’s new is going to look beautiful, but they really have everything in this place.”

Donnie Hill said fans probably miss the old park more than players, who endured dank clubhouses and an uneven field. “This place is outstanding,” he said.

Pitching coach Marcel Lachemann said no date has been set for Fernando Valenzuela’s first start for the Angels. Valenzuela is scheduled to make a third minor league start Saturday, for double A Midland at Little Rock, Ark. “To rush it would be a mistake,” Lachemann said. “If he’s ready, fine. If not, let’s take the time.”
