Share

San Diego Superior Court Judge Paul E. Overton announced Wednesday that he is retiring Monday after 18 years on the bench. He is 65.

Overton, the most senior among the court’s 71 judges, was a specialist in eminent domain, cases in which a public agency must pay for the legal seizure of a private person’s property.

He was appointed to the bench 18 years ago by then-Gov. Ronald Reagan. Before taking the bench, Overton was in private practice for 10 years. He also worked as a lawyer for 11 years for what was then known as the state Department of Highways.
