Share

It will soon be cheaper to take the trolley in Ojai.

The Ojai City Council on Tuesday approved an agreement with Willowglenn Investment Corp., the owner and operator of the trolley, that lowers the fare, expands the route and increases the days and hours of operation.

As of July 1, the fares will be 25 cents per ride for most riders. Handicapped or blind people, those over 75 years of age and children under 5 accompanied by an adult will ride free.

Under the old fee schedule, the fare was 75 cents for adults ages 21 to 64, 60 cents for students ages 5 to 20 and 30 cents for adults ages 65 to 75.

Also, the citywide route will be modified to include a stop at Soule Park Golf Course.

The trolley’s hours of operation will be 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., expanding from the present 9 a.m to 5 p.m. schedule.

The trolley will also run seven days a week. Previously, it had not run on Wednesdays.

The trolley will not operate on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas.
