Share

A Camarillo man who said he was beaten in a holding cell by four officers has filed a police brutality claim against the city of Oxnard.

David R. Kudick, 39, said the officers “smashed my head on the concrete, beat about the top of my head . . . repeatedly choked, kicked, and jumped on my back” after he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in April.

He is seeking $100,000 in compensation for the injuries he said he suffered.

According to the police report, Kudick became violent when the officers tried to replace handcuffs with leather restraints.

Oxnard Police Chief Robert Owens declined to comment on the claim, which is the first step before a civil suit can be filed.
