ANAHEIM : Students Rewarded for Park Cleanups

Share

Beginning Monday, hundreds of third-graders in Anaheim will take part in “Thank-You Picnics” to commend the youngsters for their work to clean up local parks.

During the past school year, 41 classes of third-grade students throughout Anaheim have been scrubbing out graffiti, painting chipped woodwork and picking up litter as part of a volunteer squad assigned to clean up the city’s parks.

The students also planted rows of flowers at parks in the yearlong effort to teach children about their city’s resources and inspire community pride in them.

The picnics are a way of thanking the youngsters and encouraging them to continue their volunteer efforts. Food for the lunches is provided by the Anaheim Hilton and Towers, which was a co-sponsor of the city program.

The lunches will continue through June 12.
