The body of a premature newborn boy was found wrapped in a sealed plastic bag in the closet of a Glendale motel room and the baby’s mother was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said Saturday.

Susan Goodson, 39, of Glendale was being held without bail at Glendale City Jail, Glendale Police Sgt. Lief Nicolaisen said.

Police received an anonymous call about 8:30 p.m. Friday that a newborn baby was dead in Room 3 at the Savoy Motel, in the 300 block of Lafayette Street near Colorado Street, Nicolaisen said.

On Thursday, the mother “delivered the baby in the room and did not seek medical help,” Nicolaisen said.

The cause of death had not been determined Saturday and it was not known if the child survived the birth, said an investigator in the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

“The child was found in a plastic bag in a closet after a premature delivery,” said the coroner’s investigator, who declined to be named.

The baby was 12 inches long and his weight was not available, the coroner’s investigator said. The baby appeared to be two to three months premature, the investigator said.
