San Diego
A former reporter for the San Diego Tribune was killed when he was struck by a car while walking his dog near his home in Tierrasanta, police said Monday.
Michael Richard Konon, 57, of the 5000 block of Fino Drive, died at Sharp Memorial Hospital shortly after the accident at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, the county medical examiner’s office said.
Konon was crossing in the middle of the 5200 block of Santo Road near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard when he was struck by a car driven by Kenneth Casazza, 19, of San Diego, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. Casazza was not cited, he said.
Konon joined the Tribune in 1962 and held a number of positions, including working on the copy desk and reporting real estate and business news. He covered the state courts for 17 years before retiring from the paper in February.
