Daly Tells Pistons He Will Stay Another Season
Chuck Daly has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him coaching the Detroit Pistons through the 1991-92 season, the team said Wednesday.
Daly’s contract had an option for the 1991-92 season, and he had 15 days after the playoffs concluded to decide whether he would return.
Piston spokesman Matt Dobek said that Daly told General Manager Jack McCloskey of his decision in an informal meeting.
“Basically, the conversation was, ‘Hey Jack, I’m going to come back and coach the team,’ ” Dobek said.
Daly, the NBA’s oldest coach at 60, led the Pistons to the NBA finals for three consecutive seasons and won championships in 1989 and 1990.
In February, Daly was named coach of the 1992 Olympic team, which will be the first to feature players from the NBA.
