Play Ball: Madonna will play Mae, “a worldly ballplayer with a sharp tongue and a fast reputation,” and not Debra Winger’s younger sister in the upcoming film “A League of Their Own,” as sources reported last week. The story of a female baseball team during the 1940s, the movie will be directed by Penny Marshall and feature Tom Hanks as the coach. The role of the younger sister will be played by Lori Petty (“Cadillac Man”), who is also the female lead in “Point Break,” an action-thriller starring Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey, to be released by 20th Century Fox on July 12. . . . Meanwhile, Madonna and her advisers are in discussions with Time-Warner Inc. and Warner Bros. Records about putting her at the reins of her own media company.
