Azusa : Rent Control Proposal

Share

Mayor Pro Tem Harry Stemrich said he will propose this week that the city research and adopt a rent control ordinance.

The issue will be discussed during Monday’s 7:30 p.m. council meeting.

“It is now time for our city to enact a rent control ordinance that will assist those in need while at the same time be fair and equitable for all concerned,” Stemrich said.

Stemrich said he is especially concerned about the amount of rent paid by senior citizens in mobile home parks and apartment complexes.

At least two cities in the San Gabriel Valley, West Covina and La Verne, have adopted some form of rent control for mobile home parks since 1984. Mobile home park owners could not be reached for comment on the Stemrich plan Thursday.
