Don Kincaid, 41, has had a 27-year love affair with running boards and rumble seats. His authentic restorations have put many of Kincaid’s antique cars before the public, in television specials and movies, including Jessica’s black Packard in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit,” several cars in the Eddy Murphy movie “Harlem Nights,” and cars in the upcoming Disney movie, “The Rocketeer.”

“In most movies, the cars are parked on the street or driving by in the background. The white Packard (pictured above) is not used often because it stands out in a scene--it’ll steal the show,” Kincaid said.

The Packard will be featured from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, along with a fine collection of vintage cars, at a special free antique car display open to the public at Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs.

At least 20 cars will be on view, 10 from the Horseless Carriage Club of America, and more than 10 from the Los Angeles Chapter of the Veteran Motor Car Club, including three Kincaid cars.

Kincaid’s white 1937 Packard straight-8 Roadster is the result of three years of restoration and 40 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer. More than a hobby, the Packard became the focus of Kincaid’s courtship. “I knew nothing about cars when we met,” said his wife, Judi.

Working on the Packard together, doing all the body work, mechanics, paint and sanding, became a shared labor of love for the Kincaids.

“We couldn’t get married until the car was done!” quipped Judi Kincaid, 36.

More than 13 years and 10 classic cars later, the Kincaids are still teaming up, restoring cars and renting them for other people’s weddings.

Also at Heritage Park will be a collection of antique firefighting equipment, including a Victorian steam pumper owned by the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department.

The afternoon entertainment will include a Dixieland jazz band, free cake and a barbecue lunch prepared and sold by local firefighters. The Kincaid family, along with other car owners, will be on hand to answer questions.
