Mark Spitz, 41, finished eighth and last in a 100-meter butterfly race at an international swimming meet at Canet, France.
Spitz, who lost for the fourth time in his comeback attempt, was timed in 58.93 seconds in a race won by a Czechoslovakian-born Canadian, Marcel Gery.
